The Power of the Hidden: A Devotion to Color in Encaustic

Color is my subject, my language, and my question.

In my encaustic practice, I focus on color—not as a limitation, but as a form of inquiry. I’m drawn to hue, value, and saturation as carriers of emotion, perception, and symbolic meaning. The luminous, layered nature of wax makes it an ideal medium for this exploration—complex, alive, and full of surprises.

I approach color with the mindset of both artist and investigator. My studio is a lab where I study how pigments behave under layers of translucent wax, how colors shift in proximity, and how subtle variations can transform a piece’s emotional tone.

As a longtime executive coach, I’ve spent years uncovering the unseen forces that shape human experience. In encaustic, I do the same—searching beneath the surface, coaxing out what’s hidden, and honoring what emerges. Each painting becomes not just a study in color, but a meditation on what lies beneath.

Through this focused exploration, I aim to contribute to the broader conversation about the role of color in contemporary art. Each piece becomes not only a study, but also a search—a statement—and a celebration.
